We Are All About Recycling

Recycling is one of the best ways you can have a positive impact on the beautiful world around you. Here at Yorkshire Blankets we do all we can to be eco friendly – Heres a quick insight into some of the things we do.

Recycled yarns

All of our products are made using redundant yarns left over at the end of each week in Yorkshire Mills. This means, the wool is still new, but is a by-product from the materials made within the mill. This is where our amazing colour range comes into play. As we have no control over the yarn colours, we have hundreds of thousands of different colour combinations. We can have as many as twenty blankets in one colour way to just one blanket. This means our blankets are always unique as we never see the same colour ways again. We’ve been going five years now and are still yet to find an identical roll of blanket, and that’s a lot of rolls!

Saving Yarns from Landfill

Landfill sites are filling fast and are releasing harmful chemicals and gases into the environment. All the yarns used here at Yorkshire Blankets used to go to landfill, crazy we know! So we came to the rescue and found another use for these ‘useless’ yarns, they are now snugly throws,  beautiful homeware and fabulous clothes, as well as protecting our environment.

Nothing goes in the bin

When we are creating wonderful blanket masterpieces there is always going to be off cuts and waste. This being said, nothing goes to waste here at Yorkshire Blankets! As the bits get smaller we use all the little scraps of blankets to create our lavender hearts, owls, key rings, rag wreaths and cards. We literally use every part of every blanket in some form or another, because why would you not!?

Conserving natural resources

Here are just a few ways we reuse and conserve the worlds natural resources: Recycled paper bags for your Yorkshire Blanket goodies, recycled rubble sacks and used cardboard boxes for all online orders, recycled cardboard for our handmade cards. Recycling uses a whopping 40% less energy than creating something from scratch using raw materials, meaning lots of energy is saved in producing the materials we use.
